Animation tips part 5: Weather

In this post, we’re going to talk about some animation tricks you can use in your films to animate different weather conditions.

SNOW

As you can see in this video, there are different materials you can use in your animation if you want it to be taking place in a snowy landscape:

  • Print out photos of snowy mountains and winter landscapes to use as backdrops in your set.
  • Use a piece of white cloth to create the illusion of snow covered land.
  • Or move around pieces of cotton wool to create the illusion of snow storm.
  • White clay was used to make the snowmen and also in the snowball fight.

WATER

The river in the video above was created using blue paper and a piece of cling film. You can move the transparent foil around to create the illusion of water flowing down the river. You can also use blue plasticine to create a river for your animation.
